Studying the Impact of Individual Factors on Employability in Iran's Public Sector

Abstract

Employability is defined as having the required characteristics and abilities to fulfill the changing requirements of employers, organizations and customers; a concept which is expected to replace job security in today's labor market. This research seeks to find out the individual factors affecting employees' employability in Iran's public sector. Based on the available literature the major factors include career identity, individual adaptability, social capital, human capital and interaction with labor market. Research population has been the employees of 36 Iranian public sector organizations who are active in education and culture, social and production sectors. A questionnaire containing 110 questions has been distributed to a sample of 450 employees. The effect of each factor on employability is measured using structural equations and Pearson correlation has been applied to test the research hypotheses. Results show that although all factors affect individuals' employability, interactions with labor market and career identity have the most effect.
