On economic prosperity: Providing a model for improving national competetiveness of Iran

Abstract

National competitiveness as a platform for economic prosperity, attaining higher levels of welfare and living standards has attracted ample attention of both governors and scholars during the past decade. As a result of this attention, Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) of the World Economic Forum consists of twelve pillars, each of which addresses a certain (hardware or software) aspect of national competitiveness. This study aims at investigating the relationship between the pillars of GCI and economic prosperity in order to use that information for presenting a model to improve national competitiveness in Iran.  We used the canonical correlation analysis (CCA) to identify the pillars that have more relevance in establishing the particular relationship between national competitiveness and economic prosperity, then we prioritized them by Entropy technique. Canonical correlation analysis on data from 139 countries shows that Technological readiness,Infrastructure and Higher education and training are respectively  the most important pillars that affect Iran’s economic prosperity.
