The purpose of this study was to identify how internal characteristics of an Iranian organization impact designing and implementation of an effective succession planning. Characteristics of the organization were low formality, rapid growth, working with knowledge workers, and being managed by the owners of the company. Using the “theme analysis” method on data collected from semi-structured interviews, and based on the characteristics of this organization, proper methods and other considerations for the implementation of each step of succession planning were analyzed. Some primary theoretical propositions have been developed for future research to identify the proper methods of implementing succession planning steps in similar conditions.
